How do I buy and sell on Spot, and why does my available balance show 0?
Is selling on Spot the same as going short?
Selling on Spot isn't the same as going short. It sells crypto you already own, so it can only sell what's actually in your account. If you want a single quick order without setting a price yourself, use Buy/Sell. If you want to set your own price and wait for the market to reach it, place a limit order on Spot.
Is buying and holding different from trading?
Once your buy order fills, the crypto sits in your account until you decide to sell it. You don't need to do anything else to keep it, and there's no separate holding mode to switch to. Buying to hold and trading actively happen in the same account: they're different actions, not different account states.
Why is my available balance lower than my total balance?
Your total balance and your available balance are different numbers. Available balance is what's free to use right now. If something is reserving part of your holding, your available balance is reduced by that amount, and if the whole holding is reserved it shows as 0.These are the usual reasons the two don't match:
The asset is in the wrong account. Spot orders can only use funds in your Trading account. Transfer the asset from Funding to Trading.
An open order is reserving it. A resting limit order, a trigger order, or an attached TP/SL order reserves the quantity it needs until it fills or you cancel it. Check your open orders and cancel the order to release that quantity.
The asset is subscribed to Earn. Redeem it first and wait for the redemption to complete before selling. How long a redemption takes depends on the product you subscribed to, so check the terms of that product on Earn.
The asset is being used as margin. Assets pledged as collateral for margin or X-Perps positions are held as frozen equity and aren't free to spend on Spot. Closing or reducing the position that's using them releases them.
The order panel is set to a different settlement asset. On a USD pair, switch Trade with to the asset you actually hold.
Why didn't my trigger order fill?
A trigger order checks your available balance at the moment the trigger price is reached, not when you set it up. There are two reasons it can fail at that moment, and both are common:
You didn't have enough funds in the account to cover the order.
You did have the funds, but another open order was reserving them, so they weren't available.
Before you set a trigger order, check both: that the full order value is in your Trading account, and that no other open order on the same asset is reserving part of it.
Why is there no Close all button on Spot?
Close all is a futures control. On Spot you exit a holding by selling it. If Sell is greyed out, or the maximum sellable amount is lower than what you hold, an attached TP/SL order or another open order is reserving that quantity. Cancel it in your open orders first, then sell.
I can't sell, or my balance shows 0 — what should I check, and in what order?
The same symptom can have several possible causes, and more than one can apply at the same time. Check them in this order:
Your actual balance of that asset.
Which account it's in, Funding or Trading.
Open orders reserving it.
An attached TP/SL or OCO order reserving it.
Whether it's subscribed to Earn.
Whether it's pledged as margin or collateral.
Which settlement asset the order panel is set to.
If you've been through all seven and the number still doesn't look right, contact support with the asset name and a screenshot of the order panel.
